Update: MARATHON DAY
My preparation included two half-marathons and several long runs of three hours or more. The last half-marathon Columbus Day weekend was extended for another hour, and therefore it was my longest run of 18 miles, which I finished in 3 hours and 31 minutes.
During the marathon, I was doing really well for the first 9.5 miles and then my calves started to spasm. My pace up until then was 11 minutes and 15 seconds. The balance of the marathon consisted of progressively shorter runs/walks until I finished with a time of 5 hours and 31 minutes. A major inspiration came when my daughter Meredith, who was 7 months pregnant, crossed the finish line with me.
Thanks to everyone who sponsored me in this event. Because of you, we were able to meet our goal and the residents of St. Teresa's will be enjoying a 3 channel closed circuit television system designed specifically for them.
Dear Friends of St. Teresa's,
As you know, ArchCare at St. Teresa's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is dedicated to the lives of our residents.
This year, due to the recession, the government has drastically reduced our reimbursement.
We would welcome your support for a fund raiser - all proceeds will go to the residents through the Activity Department.
On October 25, 2009, I will be participating in the Marine Marathon (26.2 miles) in Washington, D.C. We welcome your participation to raise money for our residents by pledging a per mile donation. Any donation level would be welcomed. If you are interested in donating, all checks may be made out to the order of St. Teresa's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
After the event is successuflly completed, we will advertise all our donors generosity in the facility and hopefully throughout the local media.
I personally thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Michael Chaiken
